Technology opens amazing opportunities for kids, especially those in low-income areas. That’s why we created Google FieldTrips, a digital experience using the already existing technology of Google Maps to allow kids to explore every corner of the world, right from their own desks.

We wanted to design an experience that could make education of the world accessible at the click of a button. Statistics show that even the most impoverished areas of the world now have increasing access to the internet due to the distribution of handheld devices and balloon satelites. However, accessible education is still hard to find, and is distributed unevenly across the globe. We wanted to design an experience within Google, the most used search engine, that could bring hands-on learning opportunities to you, no matter where you are. We were able to design a learning experience that could take advantage of the google earth framework, so that contextual learning could be at anyones fingertips.
